Blackity

“Blackity” is a wallpaper and textile design first exhibited at Long Gallery Harlem as part of the solo exhibition, Interior Dialogue curated by Jasmine Wahi and Rebecca Jampol. It was created as a critical response to market forces that incentivize Black artists, designers and creators to make work that is legible to a white mainstream that on one hand is often at the expense of their full ethnic and/or cultural identity expression or on the other exploits it. Blackity unapologetically rejects the notion that Black or any artists of color, must choose between authenticity and commercial viability.
