Bemis Bed

“In line with his practice of space-making, Norsworthy created the Bemis Bed as a safe enclave and space of empowerment. Inspired during his time as an artist-in-residence at Bemis Center, the installation interrogates concepts of live-work space and mutual exchange. Wielding his vast experience across creative fields and knowledge of historical periods, the decorative style intenionally references notions of class, social status, affluence, and rest, particularly in relation to luxury and how it is afforded to people of different racial and social backgrounds.” – Nneoma Ilogu, curator, “Neo-Custodians: Narratives of Heritage, Cultural Memory, and Belonging”, Bemis Center for Contemporary Art
